    Our Leaders On Safety
           By Don Kime (SAFTNUT)

I thought it would be an interesting and worthwhile process to hear the views on individual safety of our MTF leadership. We are fortunate in that our leaders not only have the responsibility of directing our forum, but they are also some of our biggest “doers” and participants in MTF activities. In many ways, they set the tone for the rest of us. Just in case you’re not familiar with our leadership, this webpage shows the structure of MTF.

    I asked (3) questions:

      1) What does safe motorcycling mean to you?,
      2) Are MTF riders safe enough?, and
      3) Do you have 3 ideas that could improve our individual’s safety?
I certainly was not disappointed in the responses I got, and I don’t think you will be either. If you’re like me, you’ll find a number of ideas in the responses that can improve our safety. Read More...

    Getting to Know You
            By Braulio Montesino (Havana ß)

A lone rider. On the road, just man and machine for months at a time. Moving where the front wheel chooses. Traveling with the wind. . . . A mystical dream for some, but a reality for a few, or at least for our “Reasoned1” Read More...

Development of the MTF Ride Calendar
            By Alan Leduc - AL2000(1343)

The First MTF ride: The IBA 50CC/100CCC

This trip developed from a post on the Motorcycle Tourer's Forum regarding AL2000's (Alan Leduc) plan to do a 50CC. Another member said they would be interested and then another and eventually it turned into a plan to do a "group" ride. There was no cost for the trip other than expenses. Each rider was responsible to submit documentation to the Iron Butt Association and pay certification fees if they wanted their ride certified. Read More...

A Note from the MTF Board
           By Barb Smith - ( Runner ( agmom98 )

The month of August in South Texas is a good month to park the motorcycles in the garage and use 4-wheeled, air-conditioned transportation for a while. This gives me a chance to take care of things on the bikes that I’d been too busy riding to get done, like free up the accessory port on the BMW by getting that GPS mount hard-wired, and adding a powerlet port to the FZ. It’s also a good time to reflect a bit. I’d been so busy “doing,” I’d not had time to process all that has happened in the last nine months.    Read More...

Western Mountain Ride, Flower Sniffin’ Ride July 13 – Leaving out of Lolo, Montana
           By Claye Curtis (ClayeC)

I had talked to Barb Smith on the phone the night before and we decided to take a ride around the northern ID/western Montana the next day. The problem was that we couldn’t make up our minds which direction to head, so agreed to meet the next morning, look at the map, and make our decision. Several others joined us in that discussion, and our ride grew into a small group of eight. Now, this is a small group, but it is a group of riders that tend to ride solo. Speaking for myself, I'd prefer riding alone or with a close friend back in Virginia, but will share the road occasionally with someone for a few miles. Read More...

Western Mountain Rough Road Ride – Lolo, Montana        By Andy Simons (andy112652)

Holy Cow! I am here in Montana! There were a few riders already at the motel including Beerme (Brad Warwick) on his super hot FJR. Tell me, what does a State Patrolman like Brad do with an FJR? I suspect anything he wants to. Other riders included Jason Arnold, Don Braziel, Don Kime, and Don Wesenberg. Dan Huber, WMRRR honcho, was the last one to show up at Lolo. He had made a 1,000 mile ride from his home and had to find a new battery along the way. The fact that he arrived bright-eyed and happy tells you something about him. We talked briefly about the schedule and turned in for a well deserved rest. Read More...
