Dressing for A Winter Ride
By Don Kime (SAFTNUT)
|
Many of us are winter riders. Of course, to our southern brethren, that just means nice weather! To those of us further north, it can mean a bit more challenge. Some of us are the hardy variety, and ride most every day, all winter long. Others of us pretty much hang it up, but let nice, sunny days entice us back out. Many more fall in the middle. Regardless of our preference or style, gear can be a real key to successful "off-season" riding.
Our "style" above will help define our gear needs, but time and distance also has a great deal to say about what's appropriate winter gear. For local area rides with temps down into the teens, I find that simply dressing wisely in layers and having good boots and gloves pretty much gets it done. This works for rides up to an hour and a half's duration and in the range of 60-90 miles.

Getting to Know You
By Braulio Montesino (Havana ß)
You can call him an Iron Butt rider, a college professor, a husband and father, or a cancer survivor . . . but most of us just call him Alan. Dream Bike - FailSafe 1400
By Andy Simons (andy112652)
Maybe you haven't heard about the FailSafe 1400, the bike that many magazines proclaimed as the greatest bike of all time.
Here is what I know. The FS1400 is manufactured in El Paso, Texas by German Rocket Scientists, who were laid off from their defense industry jobs at the end of the Cold War. The plan for the bike was the product of a software program, written to compile and analyze results of on-line surveys, taken from riders around the world.
