Safety
In addition to requiring the use of a DOT approved helmet on all MTF rides, the MTF Flower Sniffin’ Committee strongly encourages the use of Motorcycle specific protective clothing and footwear while participating in any Flower Sniffin' event. All-the-gear-All-the-time (ATGATT) reduces the severity of injuries in an accident and we want every participant in our events to be as safe as possible.

Also the MTF Flower Sniffin' Committee strongly encourages each participant in our events to self assess their riding style, interests, need for breaks and riding skill level and to keep that assessment in mind when choosing a riding partner or small group (2-4 riders) to ride with at our events. Sharing the road with someone of similar interests and riding style not only makes the ride more enjoyable for you, but safer for everyone.

Routes

Route

Route Description

Back of Dragon, Shatley Springs The entire route is approximately 271 miles, 7.5 hours and includes a 1 hour layover at Shatley Springs.

This route takes the back of The Dragon (rt 16) all the way to Crumpler, NC. There you will find the Shatley Springs Restaurant, just off Rt 16. It is a family-style feast not to be missed. The best fried chicken and country ham around. Go hungry! Take the scenic BRP back or opt for Rt. 58 in VA to save time.
The Squirrel This route is approximately 187 miles, 4.5 hours, without stops.

A scenic, twisty route that includes the Squirrel Spur Rd. This loop is sure to keep you on your toes!
Burke's Garden, Back of Dragon This route is approximately 240 miles, 6 hours, without stops.

This loop takes a scenic stroll to the town of Burke's Garden, then down the back of The Dragon (rt 16). BG would be a nice place to fly a drone for some aerial photography!
Natural Bridge, Pink Cadillac, BRP This route is approximately 204 miles, 7.5 hours with stops.

This route uses a bit of I-81 to manage time to explore. Options include: Natural Bridge or the zany Dinosaur Kingdom II and lunch at the kitchie Pink Cadillac. A few banked twisties on 501 brings you to the BRP for a nice casual return.
Paint Bank This route is approximately 201 miles, 4.5 hours, without stops.

This scenic stroll features some cool switchbacks on Rt 311 in Paint Bank.
