This ride was adapted from a ride led by Barry Brown of the Indianapolis Chapter of Southern Cruisers. Thanks Barry for introducing me to a part of the State that I had forgotten.

You are starting in New Castle, because that is where I live. New Castle is home of the Largest High School Gymnasium in the World and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. If you are into horses, we also have more horse shows than any city in Indiana.

Depart New Castle on SR-3 [S Memorial Dr] & Trojan Lane (South)

At Rushville, SR-3 connects with US-52 for a short period. Stay on SR-3 which bears right

Several miles outside of Rushville on the West side of State Road 3, you will see a mailbox that is made from brick and shaped like a pencil. Quite unique. The owner of the house owns a pencil company in Milroy.

At North Vernon, stay on SR-3 [SR-7] (South-East)

As you come down the hill in Madison there is an overhanging ledge on the left that is a great place to take a picture.

At Madison, turn LEFT (East) onto SR-56 [Main St W]

This portion of the trip is know as the River Ride. This is tobacco country. You will see many tobacco barns and scenic views of the Ohio River. There are also Casinos in Rising Sun and Aurora.

Arrive Aurora. This is a good place to stop for lunch. Several local restaurants and chains depending on you fancy. This schedule allows for a one hour lunch stop. If you can wait, hang on until you get to Oldenburg and eat a Wagner's Village Inn. Said to be the best fried chicken in Indiana.

This is the twisties portion of the trip. The signs warn trucks to stay of this route. Oldenburg is known as the Village of Spires and you want to eat at Wagner's Village Inn if you have time.

At Batesville, bear RIGHT (North) onto SR-229

At Oldenburg, the Village of Squires, you will make a couple of 90 degree jogs. Stay on SR-229

Just to the east of SR-229 on UW-52 is Metamora. This is a village that was established in the 1800's and has a grist mill, canals, and is popular because of its quaint shops.

SR-229 will T into US-52. Turn LEFT (West) onto US-52 for about 1.7 miles and then turn RIGHT (North) on SR-121
